Playwriting Every Day in November Day 26

Challenge: Random Phrase Generator - Phrase: All of it is you.

MARCIA cradles a baby FIONA. LAUREN makes lunch.

LAUREN
She looks like me, don’t you think?

MARCIA
Yes. She looks almost exactly like you when you were this age. I still remember what it was like, holding you.

LAUREN
She’s probably your last grandchild, at least for a while. Ginny doesn’t seem like she’s ready to settle down.

MARCIA
It’ll be nice for her to have some time as the youngest. I know Jeremy will be jealous at first, but they all had their turn as the apple of my eye. Now it’s Fiona’s turn.

LAUREN
Well, I ‘m sure she’ll love it. She’s already such a ham. She loves attention.

MARCIA
I’ll make sure she gets it. Twice as much from me now that your dad is gone.

LAUREN
I wish dad could see her.

MARCIA
He can. We just can’t see him.
(LAUREN puts lunch on the table and takes FIONA from MARCIA.)

LAUREN
You know I don’t believe that, mom. I wish I did though. Look at that smile. Are you smiling for your grandpa?

MARCIA
No, honey. That’s for you. All of of it is you. That’s what happens when you are a mom. Everything this little one does from now until she becomes her own person is all for you and because of you.
