It’s that time of year again where I get back in the habit of writing every day thanks to Threshold Theater in Minneapolis!
Answer to “How are you doing?” a la The Princess Bride:
Now where were we?
Oh, yes. The pit of despair!
Looking for a way to not feel so hopeless? I’m going to be posting mutual aid organizations that also won’t have anything to do with my writing!
Today is a non-profit that I hope needs no introduction: Doctors Without Borders. Doctors Without Borders is on the ground in Palestine, Lebanon, Ukraine, and more than 70 other countries providing necessary medical care in emergency situations.
I will continue these highlights throughout the month of November so if you have an organization you’d like a shout out, let me know!
Threshold Prompt:
Day 10 - Nurse
And now for my completely unrelated writing:
[OLA and BAST in the waiting room. OLA has just gotten off the phone with CLAUDE]
OLA
Bast, how much do you think my soul is worth?
BAST
Sorry?
OLA
Would you sell my soul for a million dollars?
BAST
In a heartbeat.
OLA
What?
BAST
Not my soul, no skin off my back.
OLA
You suck. I don’t know why I even talk to you.
BAST
Me neither. What’s this about?
OLA
This guy, he offered me probably the deal of a lifetime.
BAST
But?
OLA
But, he’d want me to make my songs more heteronormative.
BAST
Ha, has he even heard your music? How is Jolene Deux ever going to be “no homo”.
OLA
Ha, yeah.
BAST
Are you considering it?
OLA
It’s a lot of money. And he just offered it, and I’m on three hours of sleep in a hospital waiting room. I don’t think I’ve even fully registered the offer.
BAST
Okay. One thing at a time then. Lets wait to hear from mom how dad is recovering. Then we’ll go get some rest. No need to make any life changing decisions while we’re stuck in limbo.
OLA
Yeah.
BAST
Maybe you should get some rest now. There’ll be plenty of time to see dad in a hospital bed and, not to be too caviler about his current situation but you look like you’re the one that’s been hit by the bus.
OLA
You think you’re so funny.
BAST
And you look like you’re about to cry.
OLA
Looks can be deceiving! Although in this case they are not.
BAST
Here, sit down.
[she does]
breath in
[she does]
breath out.
[she does, pauses, then bursts into tears.]
You let out whatever you need to, sis.
