2024 Playwriting Every Day in November - Day 24

It’s that time of year again where I get back in the habit of writing every day thanks to Threshold Theater in Minneapolis!

Answer to “How are you doing?” a la The Princess Bride:
Now where were we?
Oh, yes. The pit of despair!

Looking for a way to not feel so hopeless? I’m going to be posting mutual aid and nonprofits organizations that also won’t have anything to do with my writing!
Today, in honor of the chill in the air, I’m highlighting Peace House Community (PHC), a warming place for cold days. PHC nourishes its members’ bodies and souls by providing a safe space for everyone. PHC enriches the lives of its members, volunteers and students by offering a place to belong for everyone who comes through its doors.
I will continue these highlights throughout the month of November so if you have an organization you’d like a shout out, let me know!

Threshold Prompt:
Day 24 - Leftovers from David

And now for my completely unrelated writing:

OLA
Thea, there’s something I want to talk with you about.

THEA
Yes?

OLA
You remember how I told you about that guy from Lowtown Records?

THEA
Was that the one that wanted to make Jolene Deux hetero?

OLA
Yeah.

THEA
How could I forget?

OLA
Well, somehow he got my number and he gave me a call while I was in the waiting room.

THEA
Can’t say he isn’t persistent.

OLA
Ha, yeah.
[long pause]

THEA
Ola?

OLA
Well, he made a new offer.

THEA
That’s refreshing. Saw the error of his ways about having you mask as unqueer? As if that would ever work.

OLA
Not exactly.

THEA
Oh?

OLA
It was more of an increase.

THEA
And?

OLA
It was a big increase.

THEA
You thinking about taking the offer?

OLA
Umm…

THEA
You took the offer.
[silent ascent]
I see. And what does that mean in the grand scheme of things? Is this a ghostwriting deal or…?

OLA
No. It’s for me. Well, sort of me.

THEA
I see.
