Happy Thanksgiving! I’m busy cooking, but please look up and give to Indigeous-run organizations that help build their community in honor of this day that is about family and also the whitewashing of one of the two major sins the United States is founded on.

In fact, I think you’ll find that this contract
[producing her copy of the contract she signed her soul away]
Mentions very little about the content of my music at all. And the “morality clause” which, in my opinion should be unconstitutional, but unfortunately isn’t, is more about the number of partners I’m seen in public with, not the gender, because that would be unconstitutional and make the entire contract void.
I got to hand it to you, this is a well-written piece of trickery. My first two lawyers didn’t see a way I could get out of the approval clause. Luckily my cousin just passed the bar as a labor lawyer and she was able to enlighten me on a few key pieces in the contract. That allow me to be more creative in my releases as well as more in control of what I do when not on stage or in the recording studio.
Did you know that approval of music releases only defaults to the label when it is recorded in studio? That I maintained the rights to concert set lists? I would say that’s something you want to fix for future hostage musicians but I don’t think you’ll have much of a chance to acquire more.
