Prompt: The Brain
I’ve been what I like to call a “Lady’s Companion” part-time for a woman with a particularly acute type of dementia for about a year and a half and I have learned some things that truly terrify me about the brain. Did you know that you can forget how to swallow? I wish I didn’t. She’s, thankfully, not at that place, but wow does it make me want to do all the tricks in the book to try to avoid it.
I spent last PEDIN exploring a relationship between a granddaughter and grandmother where the grandmother is struggling with dementia, partially inspired by my friend so I think I’ll go a different direction, but that was the first thing I thought of with the prompt so I thought I would share.
SHANNON stands on stage powerpoint presentation behind them, announcing INN_SIGHT.
SHANNON
Imagine being able to go anywhere without having to leave your home. Without having to leave your bed! All with the power of your own brain.
[Slide changes. Scene designer can have some fun, it’s all corporate gibberish]
Since the beginning of humankind gaining sentience, we have known our brains have enormous power that we are unable to harvest, until now.
[Slide change.]
INN_SIGHT is a non-habit forming pill that allows a person to be in control of their dreams. Think of it as Inception without the sticky moral quandaries of implanting ideas.
[Slide change, this one says something like “Be like Leo but Ethical!”]
But it’s more than just what you can dream up, forgive my pun. INN_SIGHT offers supplements that can provide curated experiences. Want to see the Louvre? There’s a pill for that. Want to experience Pride and Prejudice as Elizabeth? There’s a pill for that too! And the best part is that it is one hundred percent non-habit forming and safe.
[Slide change: “May not be safe for all users.” Quick second change to something gibberish and feel-good]
We’ve named our product INN_SIGHT, because a night’s stay at our “inn” can give you more insight into our world than a trip around it. So choose to be INN_SIGHT-full today!
[Lights up on the audience]
Now I have Kyle in the audience with a mic, give us a wave Kyle!
[KYLE waves]
If you have any questions, raise your hand and Kyle will head your way with the mic.
