2024 Playwriting Every Day in November - Day 20

It’s that time of year again where I get back in the habit of writing every day thanks to Threshold Theater in Minneapolis!

Answer to “How are you doing?” a la The Princess Bride:
Now where were we?
Oh, yes. The pit of despair!

Looking for a way to not feel so hopeless? I’m going to be posting mutual aid and nonprofits organizations that also won’t have anything to do with my writing!
Today is Give to the Max Day (GTMD) in Minnesota which is like Giving Tuesday, and in honor of this day, I’m going to encourage you to support your favorite nonprofit. I will be giving to several arts organizations because while you won’t die without art, it’s hard to live in a world without it.
Not sure of where you’d like to donate? Check out Give MN (the main GTMD portal) and find an organization that speaks to you.
I will continue these highlights throughout the month of November so if you have an organization you’d like a shout out, let me know!

Threshold Prompt:
Day 20: Leaves, Lighter, Love

And now for my completely unrelated writing:

CLAUDE
Vi. Can you please enlighten me as to why you thought it would be a good idea to break the terms of your contract?

VI
Which terms?

CLAUDE
Don’t play dumb with me. You know what terms. I’ll admit it was clever to do a last-minute acoustic set. It meant none of the band had to be in on it so no one could tattle on you, but you know the introduction and lyrics to Wallflower are against your branding contract.

VI
How so?

CLAUDE
You know how.

VI
I’m afraid I don’t. Explain it to me. Very slowly. And into the mic.
[beat]
You can’t can you? I read over the contract again and there’s nothing explicitly stated because what you implied and what you said, off the record, in person to me, would have been illegal to request. You can’t write a binding contract to have someone go back into the closet.
